Why does getting into water make you want to pee?
Immersion diuresis is the name given to the phenomenon of getting into water and then wanting to take a tinkle. I thought it might be something to do with the pressure of water on the bladder or just a psychological effect, but it's actually a lot more interesting and quite a cool demonstration of physiology.
This is the second in my series entitled 'Minute Medicine' where I try to explain an offbeat medical topic in as short a time as possible. So far I've made them during a brief break on a night shift!
